Affiliation: SERGEOMIN, Bolivia

Who I am and what I Do

My name is Jebner Zambrana, and I am a Mining Engineer specialized in Mining Geology and Mineral Economics. I obtained a Master's Degree at the University of Utah, USA, and also, at the Royal School of Mines, University of London, England. At the present, I am the Executive National Director of the Bolivian Geological and Mining Survey (Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería) SERGEOMIN-Bolivia.

Expedition Role

Since last year's expedition, I worked with some aspects related to geology and logistics.

What I LearnedFrom Last Year Experience

I did not have the chance of participating directly in all scientific work on the Licancabur Volcano, but as one of the members of the Bolivian counterpart (SERGEOMIN; the other is SERNAP), we have made some geological studies about volcanoes in this area. I hope those results will be useful for the Project.

What Made Me Study Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics?

For almost 500 years, Bolivia has been an important mining country, being at one moment in time, the second largest tin producing country. During the 16 th and 17 th Centuries, Bolivia was one of the most important silver producing countries in the world. Today, although the crisis in the mining industry, Bolivia continue getting about 30% of its financial resources from the mines, that produce mainly silver, zinc, gold and tin.

Family, Hobbies, Interests, Etc.

One son (22) and a daughter (9). As hobbies, I enjoy music, singing, playing guitar, reading and writing. In fact, I have already written 8 books, one of them will be third edition.   I really enjoy reading books about extraterrestrial life. That is the main reason because I feel quite happy, cooperating with NASA in the present research about life in extreme conditions, at the Licancabur Summit. I am confident that through this Project with the NASA, we are going to be contributing to find out some interesting conclusions about the origins of life that for sure, will help planning the next trips to Mars, where, by the way, I think there is some sort of life.

Parting Words for Students and Teachers

We, human beings, must think that life on this Planet is not a privilege reserved only for human kind. Of course, there has to be life all over the Universe, all over the billions of stars and Planets that are spread out everywhere. We have to think that people from Earth could be different, more or less advanced, technically and spiritually, than other beings that exist in the Universe, but finally, we have to think that we share the same roots, we are sons of the same Almighty Father. We are only a very tiny part of this Universal Brotherhood.

¡¡¡Lets find ways of getting in touch with the cosmic brotherhood!!!
