Answers from the Mascots

Asked by Hannah in 1st Grade.

Dear Hannah,

What is it like on top of the mountain?

Well, we haven't been there yet, but we are living at the refuge. There is a lot of wind so we have to hang onto our human friends so we are not blown away. It is cold at night but warm during the day. The dust gets in our fur. We have so much opportunity for adventure and mysteries that we do not mind the extreme environment so much.

Does the Pacific Ocean look the same in South America as it does in North America?

Yes, it looks a lot like the Northwest in this area. It makes us realize that we are all part of one big Earth.

Are you cold?

Yes, at night, but we have a strategy. We sleep in a pile and we make sure that the furriest one (Leo) is on top.

Do you need some more clothes to wear?

No. When it is not so cold, our fur is fine. If it is cold, we travel in the pockets of our human friends or in their backpacks.

Are you going to help with the experiments?

We always do! Maybe sometimes a little bit too much. We also have our own experiments and we are interpreting data.

Best wishes from,

Leo, G-B, Bongo, and Pup
