Cristian Tambley

Expertise: Informatics
Affiliation: Universidad Católica del Norte

Who I am and What I Do?

My name is Cristian Tambley, I am an informatic engineer from the Universidad Católica del Norte in Antofagasta, Chile. I work in the Astronomy Institute at my university as systems administrator and telescopes support for research work in Armazones Observatory.

Career Journey

Since I was a child I was interested in engineering, mechanics, electronics and computers (Lego, RC cars and Nintendo) and after some time I started to investigate how these things work. My degree thesis was in astronomy data administration and my latest projects are in control systems with the telescopes in the UCN Observatory working with people of Bochum Universität in Germany.

What made you study science?

I always wanted to know more about everything, so after child games I start to research in technology. The television always is a source of information, and it can help you to open your mind (using it wisely), for me, watching and reading about astronauts and spaceships is enough to keep a child’s dream alive for many years.Family, hobbies, interests, etc.
I practice a lot of sports: mountain bike, kayak, and mountaineering. I love to be surrounded by nature. I also like robotics and electronics, these are hobbies now, but I want to make this a career starting with my post degrees in these areas.

Parting words for students or teachers

Keep your child dreams alive, study, research and work to make these dreams come true. There are multiple ways to make these happen.
