Who I am and What I
Do
I am a microbiologist studying microorganisms
which survive in extreme environments. Last
year I retired from university teaching
but I am continuing my research.
Career Journey
The Philippines are my birthplace and I
have gone through World War II. I received
my B.S.(Botany) from the University of the
Philippine, M.S.(Biology) from the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem and Ph.D. from Florida
State University. I accepted a teaching
position at Florida A&M University where
I taught Microbiology and General Biology
until my retirement in 2001. At present
I am a Research Microbiologist at NASA Ames
Research Center in California.
How Did I Get To Where
I Am
By hard work.
What Made Me Study Science?
I was always fascinated with and have a
deep love for Life.
Where Did You Grow Up?
In a small town in the near Manila, Philippines.
Personal
My family consists of our 3 children, my
co-worker and loyal husband Imre,
my mother who is 99 and a brother. My hobbies
and interests are photography, folk arts,
playing the piano, history and gourmet food.
Advice
Once you decided what you want, work hard
to accomplish it but know your limits.
